AGRICULTURE EQUIPMENTS RENTAL CENTERS-FRANCHISEES “ONE-STOP-SHOP” Agriculture input Centers.
Instead of individual purchase and rental of the government subsidized equipment centers, we suggest the Mechanization Centers be setup like Hertz franchise equipment rental centers, (www.hertzequip.com).
These are individual owned Equipment Rental centers. Such franchising centers are going globally with success stories at Shanghai-China, Copenhagen-Denmark, Lyon-France, Oslo-Norway, Barcelona-Spain, and many other countries. They give better and shared economic advantage of utilization of equipments. The Centers will be an integral and major component of our network system consisting of State, Regional and Districts franchising systems. The centers will serve more than just equipment rental centers; it can be daily shared agricultural information centers A ONE STOP AGRICULTURAL INPUTS SHOPPING CENTER.
The government agriculture news, Extension service centers findings and agriculture information resource center at the local level, how-to techniques, MAO directives should be made available to the centers. It will serve as a primary agricultural data collection centers also.
One of the most cost ineffective finding of SAA/Global 2000 work in Ghana was the utility of the information generated by Government Extension Services. What is the use of information, if it reaches no more that 10-15% of the small farm holders?. Looking at in another way, it means the effectiveness of the Extension Services are only 10-15%.

We shall evaluate the capabilities of Ghana meteorological Association and their ability to prediction the weather, particularly the rainfall and evaluate their error rate of prediction. We would like to coordination planting time by Broadcast with the information of weather conditions and also maximize better utilization of fertilizers. These can be done through cell phones and exclusive Radio and TV channels which are necessary technologies, readily available in Ghana, even if access to internet are novelty and time /cost prevention and multi-lingual news papers’ distribution cost prohibitive.
We would initiate some means of getting reliability and commitment from the Government and or the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for sustain subsidy of fertilizer supply. If possible, we shall sign Memorandum of Understanding for say five years recurrent subsidy contract with the Government. We will investigate an alternative contract, assurance or guarantee for the supply of fertilizers for the centers. Since the supply of fertilizer and its subsidy has been highly dependent on the government in power and erratic, any policy tilt in the supply of fertilizer can eliminate a whole series of agriculture businesses. Fertilizer is the principal cost in agriculture production, a major contributor of successful yield and next to water and or irrigation.
